Looking back over 50 years of archive music tv
THE ROXY.
The Roxy was a short lived British Music
Television show produced by Tyne Tees Television between 1987 and
1988.
It was presented by David Jensen, Kevin Sharkey, Pat
Sharp & Paul Nolan.
The show was filmed in a converted cinema in
Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The Roxy focused on the Independent Local Radio
stations’ music charts, as opposed to TOTP who used Gallup during this
time.
The programme had a run of bad luck. In many regions, it
suffered from being scheduled against EastEnders. Then, at the end of
1987, an industrial dispute at ITV made live performances impossible. It
made its final appearance on ITV on 5th April 1988.

The show went out on a Tuesday evening
initially around the 6.30pm – 7.30pm slot (depending on the ITV
region).
